Vet choir to raise money in aid of Ukraine

Helen Styles.

A choir of vets is inviting members of the profession to take part in a performance intended to raise money for those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

VetChoir UK, under the direction of musical director Helen Styles, is making a virtual choir recording, with singers asked to contribute money as well as their voices to the effort.

Fund-raiser

All singers are being asked to contribute to the group’s Justgiving page fund-raiser or another humanitarian charity of their choice instead of paying their normal choir fee.

The group’s donations will be put towards the Disasters Emergency Committee’s (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian appeal.

Organisers for the event said rehearsals start next week and the recording is open to anyone who wants to participate, not just members of the veterinary profession.

Immediate needs

The group’s Justgiving page reads: “Intense conflict in Ukraine is threatening the lives and livelihoods of civilians across the country, causing hundreds of thousands to flee. Homes have been destroyed or are unsafe to live in. Essential services have been hit. Families have been separated. People have been injured. Lives have been lost.

“DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and across the border in the neighbouring countries.

“They are working to meet the immediate needs of all people fleeing with food, water, medical assistance, protection and trauma care – £30 could provide essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month; £50 could provide blankets for four families to keep them warm; £100 could provide emergency food for two families for one month.”
