Business owners, practice founders, HR directors and association past-presidents among the roster of speakers for afternoon of inspirational talks on 29 September.
A line-up of key women working in the veterinary profession and animal health sector has been lined up to help inspire others at a virtual event this month.
Veterinary Woman and XLVets are organising “Veterinary Women in Leadership” – which will take place on the afternoon of 29 September – and have association past-presidents, practice and referral hospital founders, clinical directors and HR officers booked to speak.
Alongside past-presidents and representatives – including Amanda Boag (RCVS), Daniella Dos Santos (BVA), Wendy Nevins (BVNA), Catriona Curtis (SPVS) and Jenny Hull (BCVA) – women in the leadership ranks of the event’s headline sponsors will also share their career journeys. These include Tina Hunt, of Elanco, and Libby Sheridan, of Purina.
Krka-sponsored Cream Awards Dairy Vet of the Year winner Sarah Tomlinson will also speak.
The event runs from 1pm to 7pm, and will conclude with a series of discussion groups to discuss future steps to allow more women to progress into leadership positions.
XLVets chief operating officer Kerrie Hedley said: “These discussion groups are a great opportunity for conversation about the future. We know women face systemic and individual barriers to career progression.
“A key objective of this event is to work towards a world where a woman gets a job because she is a good candidate – rather than to fill a set quota – and where she is not denied opportunities because of gender.”
Full event and booking details are online and a competition offering two free tickets is running until 20 September. Terms and conditions are also online.
Liz Barton, editor of Veterinary Woman, said: “We want to encourage those women who look at others at the pinnacle of their career with awe that anything is possible by taking the first step.
“This event is designed to inspire vets and veterinary nurses to take those first steps and, within a supportive community, to continue the journey.”
