Europe’s largest non-clinical veterinary congress came back with a bang as a bumper number of delegates attended SPVS-VMG Congress 2022.
More than 800 delegates, speakers and exhibitors attended the ICC Wales in Newport from 13 to 14 May for congress, which returned to the in-person format after last year’s event was held online due to coronavirus restrictions.
The event was officially opened by firefighter, psychologist and writer Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, while congress also featured a raft of new speakers alongside the return of some of the most popular presenters from the past few years.
In addition to five non-clinical lecture streams and Saturday afternoon interactive workshops, the weekend featured the chance to meet with a wide range of suppliers and other networking opportunities.
SPVS president Andrew Parker said: “The SPVS-VMG Congress was a fantastic success this year; it was the first time we have met up face to face for more than two years, and what a difference that makes.
“It was the perfect forum for networking – one of the major losses during the pandemic. In-person interaction with the conference exhibitors and delegates was invaluable.
“It was also a great opportunity to have meaningful CPD with a varied and interesting programme.”
It was also announced at congress that newly elected VMG president Georgina Hills would be stepping down from the role to embark on a new career in the mental health sector.
Mrs Hills’ role will be filled by VMG senior vice-president Rich Casey, who will be acting president until the end of December 2022, supported by VMG chair Ruth Mackay.
It was also revealed that SPVS-VMG Congress 2022 will be the last joint event for the two associations.
