PetSavers is inviting vets, vet students and RVNs to apply for its open grant programmes.

Grants can be awarded for:

• a master’s degree by research (MDR)

• a student research project grant (SRP)

Specific projects

The MDR grant will fund a vet, postgraduate student or RVN to work full time on a specific research project. The applicant does not have to be a qualified vet, but as least one applicant must have a degree registered with the RCVS.

Potential students can apply for up to £35,000 for a one-year project. The closing date for applications is 31 August.

Meanwhile, the SRP grant will fund up to two research projects per university. Each project must have a vet student or VN supporting the clinical companion animal research, and universities must submit the applications, PetSavers said.

Would-be students can apply for up to £1,000 for a one-year project. This grant will be closing for applications on 31 July.

Natural diseases

The charity said all studies should only involve naturally occurring diseases in small animals.

A PetSavers spokesman said: “If you have a novel research idea that is feasible, of interest, ethical and relevant then please apply.

“The ultimate aim of PetSavers projects are to advance the understanding of the cause and management of a clinical disorder.”

‘Positive impact’

The spokesman added: “Projects are selected in the hope the study results will have a rapid and positive impact on the way diseases are diagnosed, managed and treated in general practice, as well as at a specialist level.”

PetSavers have been supporting clinical research since 1974 and provided more than £2 million in grants to fund clinical study projects designed to advance the knowledge of conditions affecting small animals kept as pets.
