PAT on the back for practice team

Members of the practice team outside the main Dunedin Vets practice in Tranent.

Dedicated veterinary practice team members are preparing to walk, run, cycle and swim the equivalent 874-mile distance from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for charity Pets As Therapy (PAT).

Vets, VNs and receptionists at Dunedin Vets, which has four premises in East Lothian, have already clocked up 150 miles and are planning more events to complete the gruelling distance.

Cycle

Vet Chris Monk has clocked up a 50-mile cycle ride around East Lothian, while fellow clinical director Margot Hunter’s 5km run, and a walk across Glenshiel Ridge by vets Jonny Hundal and Rhiannon Dearie, chalked more miles off the total.

Meanwhile, RVN Nicole Paprotny and baby Hope completed a five-mile pram push. The team is charting its progress on a map on an office wall, with the pin currently just south of Inverness.

Visits

The team is hoping to raise at least £500 on its JustGiving page with its mammoth efforts for PAT, which provides visits by pets and volunteers to hospitals, hospices, special needs schools and care homes.

The cash will go towards recruiting and registering new volunteers to help meet the charity’s waiting list for visits.

‘Great fun’

Mrs Hunter said: “We’re having great fun doing various activities and it’s a lovely way of bringing all the practice team together to raise money for a great cause.

“We’re raising funds as individuals and in small groups, so everyone is chipping in with a few miles, and we have lots of other activities planned.

“PAT is a fantastic charity. Volunteers and their pets bring joy, comfort and companionship to many individuals, who appreciate being able to touch and stroke a friendly animal.

“Many people benefit from this unique experience and the results are outstanding. Our clients have been very generously supporting us through our JustGiving page.”
