IVC Evidensia shaking things up for London Vet Show

IVC Evidensia says it has decided to shake things up with its lecture streams planned for this year’s London Vet Show.

The practice group’s plans for its small animal referrals and equine referrals lectures are to have a series of topics, relevant to first opinion vets and VNs, with specialists from different disciplines talking about how they would approach a particular topic.

IVC Evidensia says this unique approach will showcase the expertise it has within the group and help highlight how specialist patient care is based around collaboration and teamwork between first opinion clinicians and referral specialists.

Slots

Each specialist will speak in a half-hour slot about the topic from his or her point of view, with the structure then allowing delegates the chance to meet and hear from experts in their fields talking on relevant, day-to-day work in practical and focused talks.

The aim is so vets and VNs can see how specialists from different disciplines assess cases and make their decisions.

As an example, it says collapse will be covered in a stream including lectures from a neurologist, a cardiologist, and an emergency and critical care specialist. Delegates will then be able to meet the specialist on the IVC Evidensia stand at the show.

‘Real insight’

Richard Artingstall, advanced practitioner in small animal surgery of Vale Referrals and the IVC Evidensia referrals strategy group, said: “Working our referrals and equine streams like this gives delegates the opportunity to gain a real insight, from different disciplines, into how our specialists work up a case.

“The lectures will offer practical, discipline-based guidance, looking at clinical presentations and problems from different discipline perspectives. Our hope is that this will help delegates in decision-making and planning case management plans for these more tricky case presentations in practice. I think it will be incredibly useful for them and I can’t wait to be there.”

Speakers

Speakers for the whole event are all specialists from within the IVC Evidensia network, including:

  • Jane Ladlow, RCVS and European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) European specialist in small animal surgery (soft tissue), of Hamilton Specialist Referrals
  • Nadia Shihab, RCVS specialist in neurology and EBVS European specialist in veterinary neurology, of Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists
  • Steven Murphy, referral surgical nurse, of Vets Now

All lectures will take place upstairs in one of the larger lecture theatres at ExCeL London. The vet show is on 11 to 12 November.
