A series of webinars, podcasts and video interviews about quality improvement (QI) for practices and practitioners has been launched by RCVS Knowledge.

The first podcast, which has just been released, covers why QI is important in veterinary practice. Several more episodes will be teased throughout April before the entire series is launched on RCVS Knowledge’s new learning platform at the end of the month.

Guide

The resources, which have been designed to be a comprehensive guide to the application of QI in practice, are described as easily digestible, and relevant to practitioners and practice teams.

The resources include contributions from:

  • John Williams, national surgical lead at Vets Now
  • Angela Rayner, director of QI at CVS
  • Caroline Freedman, the representative for pet owners on the RCVS’ practice standards group

The first series – “Establishing a QI structure in practice” – covers how to get started in practice, how QI fits with clinical governance and the Practice Standards Scheme, and how to have effective communication within practice teams.

Future QI Boxset series will also cover clinical audits, benchmarking, checklists, human factors, systems thinking and practice culture.

Accessible

Pam Mosedale, QI clinical lead at RCVS Knowledge, said, “We can’t wait to launch this new series, which we hope will be extremely useful and accessible for those in practice and beyond.

“I would like to thank all our contributors who enabled this to happen; who provided brilliant advice and guidance on applying QI in practice.

“QI Boxset is designed to make QI more accessible, so that everyone feels confident in giving it a go, to see the benefits it provides to practice teams and their patients.”
