Myerscough unveils memorial plaque for veterinarian who was responsible for training thousands of veterinary nurses.
A plaque has been unveiled to commemorate vet Lorraine Allan, who died earlier this year.
Mrs Allan – who was head of equine, farriery and veterinary nursing at Myerscough College – educated thousands of veterinary nurses, and laid the foundations for part-time and flexible RVN training courses over her decades in the profession.
Mrs Allan’s children and former colleagues gathered at Myerscough’s veterinary nursing centre at the college’s Bilsborrow campus to pay tribute and reveal the plaque, which dedicates the centre, and will act as a permanent memorial to Mrs Allan and the work she did with the college.
Chief executive and principal of Myerscough College Alison Robinson said: “We’re delighted that Helen and Robert [Mrs Allan’s children] could join us for this special occasion.“
Ms Robinson added: “It was really important for our veterinary nursing and farriery staff to create a permanent memory of Lorraine. We all have very fond memories of her and I could share so many stories about her time at Myerscough.
“It’s also not just about the people here today, but also of the future. New students won’t have known Lorraine, so we wanted that permanent reminder of her in the form of the plaque.”
